The doctrine of - The Security of the Believer

The Security of the Believer is one of those doctrines that can cause you to live a more peaceful life or even cause great fear and uncertainty.  So why is it that the interpretation of such a small doctrine, in the grand scheme God's ultimate work for mankind, seems to divide even the strongest of believers?
